Heritage Restoration of Byculla railway station

MUMBAI- Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Commerce and Industry, Government of India ceremonially launched the work of heritage restoration of  structures of Byculla station through CSR on 20.7.2019.  The work is done by “I Love Mumbai” a Non-Government Organisation spearheaded by Ms. Shaina N.C and assistance from The Bajaj Group Charitable Trust. Shri Madhu Chavan, Chairman, MHADA, Adv. Wariz Pathan, Hon'ble MLA, Smt. Minal & Niraj Bajaj, Ms. Abha Lambha, Dr. R. Badri Narayan, Additional General Manager, Shri S.K. Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.

Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway informed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Mumbai Division, Central Railway and the NGO “I Love Mumbai”.  The work is being undertaken in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Heritage Conservation Committee and restrictions prescribed under Heritage Conservation Act after due clearance from heritage committee.  Renowned heritage consultant M/s Abha  Lambah Associates are the heritage consultants for this project on behalf of the NGO.

The following works are being undertaken
Beautification of main entry/façade of platform number 1 – restoration, lighting, etc.
Exit passage of platform number 1 -(Dadar end) to be improved and restored
Garden area facing the façade to be restored and beautified
Restoration of all walls, grills, FOBs
Renovation of toilets for general and Divyangjan 
Upgradation/beautification of water huts – two each on all platforms
Restoration and upgradation of benches
LED lighting at station in heritage scheme
Repainting and beautification of FOBs
Heritage wing roof restoration
Parking facility to be developed on both sides as per plan to be approved by Railway
Separate ladies toilet and regulation/restoration of façade of offices/stores along concourse.

After the ceremonial launch of the project, the Hon'ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal inspected the station and the various public amenities like, cleanliness of the station and surrounding area, wash rooms, foot over bridge, wi-fi, old antique furniture and gave appropriate instructions to the officials for necessary amendments/alterations in such a way so that the same gel with the heritage restoration of the station. He also interacted with commuters and railway staff.
